@guineapiggyman MIX the vocals first. :) And that is for live music, not studio recording.
-
@GoodFortuneOfficial you record the vocals first????? lol
-
100% incorrect on everything that was mentioned. It is evident the person in the video has never run sound.
-
Drums come last, to be honest. Vocals, then guitar, then bass guitar, thén drums. But that's just what I prefer I guess. :)

You should take this video down. Every point you make is wrong. You don't have a proper understanding of mixing or live sound.This video is starting potential new engineers off with all the wrong information and extremely bad habbits that will end up them either blowing stuff up or getting the sack. Watch or read the soundcraft guide to mixing then make a new video. Im not being nasty but its very wrong.

@markyellowseries3 this lady knows nothing

lol, cut the lows out of the kick channel? what is a kick without lows?
-
You should practice proper gain staging Lady and the gain knob IS NOT a second volume and should be set first after faders and mains are set to Unity I cant believe all the misinformed people on the net making educational videos or tutorials about things they know nothing about

Gain is likea second volume
i am afraid this lady doesnt know what a gain knob is for. the first thing to set up is the gain. get the singer to sing at his loudest volume or even shout into the mic whilst you are turning up the gain knob. increase the gain until the clip light starts to filcker, then back it back off a couple of clicks. at this level, the mic is giving the maximum level to the channel without distortion. having the gain knob to low will start to cause hiss and hum,

it will depent entirely on the source, basically the drum kit quality, the head's condition and the tuning. Also it will depend a LOT on the drummer's technique, the style played, the microphone used, the room, the PA system, the moon phase, the nutrition of the engineer, the political views of the government and the amount of tennis balls used in the australian open.
