Peter Levine is Director of CIRCLE, The Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement and Research director of Tufts University's Jonathan Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service. Levine is one of the nation's leading scholars on civic engagement and young Americans. Levine's book "The Future of Democracy: Developing the Next Generation of American Citizens" defends the value of civic engagement and the importance of preparing young people to be active and responsible participants in our democracy.

This talk is the first of the new "Civic Engagement & Democracy Lecture Series," sponsored by the Institute for Policy and Civic Engagement (IPCE) to bring leading thinkers, scholars, and practitioners to UIC. The series will foster dialogue on important topics that further understanding about the role of the university in facilitating and promoting civic engagement and strengthening democracy.
