Gap Commercial - Khaki Swing

This commercial for Gap Khakis from 1998 helped propel swing music back into the mainstream and publicized the swing revival of the late 90's (of which we are currently a part of).

I was 18 at the time and completely remember this commercial. As a teen it did attract my attention. It did make me start wearing khakis. It just grabbed my imagination like a lot of people. Weird how "moments" in pop culture happen like that.

It's still going. It's not the fad that it was 12-14 years ago, but there are enough people who love the dance and the music enough to keep swing dancing alive. Most big cities have a swing dance community...you just have to get out there and find it!

That's Louis Prima, Keely Smith, Sam Butera, and the Witnesses. That ad might have inspired a swing revival elsewhere but oddly it came at about the end of the Orange County/LA swing scene where most of those dancers were from.
