Portraits and sketches from SE Asia. I went travelling for ten months in 2005 and kept a sketchbook, often making portraits. Passengers and waiters on the Trans-Siberian Railway; Hong Kong Tai Chi practitioners; Bangkok barmaids and resident stoners; Indian elephants; burned out backpackers; wives of Vietnamese village chiefs and their daughters.

The quality of your sketchbooks ... your transcendental vision ... make me acutely conscious of what being an artist is all about. Love the pages at 1:37. The gestural brushwork on the figure behind the main subject transmits so much. You are able to utilize drawing as a rich alternative and empathetic language. Your lines are often spare and beautiful... I had to watch "The Black Sketchbook" several times over before I left to teach my classes. These sketches made my day!
