Portraits and sketches from SE Asia. I went travelling for ten months in 2005 and kept a sketchbook, often making portraits. Passengers and waiters on the Trans-Siberian Railway; Hong Kong Tai Chi practitioners; Bangkok barmaids and resident stoners; Indian elephants; burned out backpackers; wives of Vietnamese village chiefs and their daughters.

  • The quality of your sketchbooks ... your transcendental vision ... make me acutely conscious of what being an artist is all about. Love the pages at 1:37. The gestural brushwork on the figure behind the main subject transmits so much. You are able to utilize drawing as a rich alternative and empathetic language. Your lines are often spare and beautiful... I had to watch "The Black Sketchbook" several times over before I left to teach my classes. These sketches made my day!

  • Just beautiful :)
