A homemade hot air balloon. Extra thin, lightweight bags were cut into parts, then glued together to make a large hot air balloon. A hair dryer was then used to inflate the balloon, before the candles were lit.

  • I just wondered why not make the basket holding the fuel sit inside, not hanging outside the balloon. It seems like anytime the balloon tilts a bit the flame could ignite the bag.

  • @lepadilla72 The reason for hanging the basket outside is to make lighting the candles easier. This way, the basket can be tied, and candles easily lighted. If the basket was inside the candles would first need to be lighted, then tied down inside. The design could certainly use some work, but overall it's not too bad.

  • Cool but I think you should have use a smaller bag. Probably half the size of the one you used. I think obviously the reason you did not do it outside if because you would have gotten in trouble if the neighbors saw you. And I see you have the fire extinguisher I just hope you know how to used it :). You know wonder if anyone has use the green house effect to make one.

  • @gino07770 Thanks. I didn't do it outside because the wind would have blown it away. It was made to be used indoors. And I'm 18 - I think I know how to use a fire extinguisher. Just because your average North American doesn't know how to properly use fire doesn't mean everyone is the same.

  • @sirpau1 Don't worry I'm just kidding with you. You probably sick about hearing all the over concern comments in here.

  • @gino07770 Alright, that's good to hear :) The comments regarding safety can be a bit annoying, but I don't really mind all that much. We enjoyed building the balloon and put it on youtube for others to get entertained or get ideas for their own balloon. If all they can take from the video is that the balloon might catch fire, make some smoke and "burn the house down" it is their loss, not mine. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoyed!

  • @ryantong1988 Except...I didn't set my house on fire with a hot air balloon. I think my current title is just fine :P

  • Of course! It's a few candles, and we aren't powering the balloon with gasoline. If the candles fell on the ground, a pillow on top of it would have been enough, and if the plastic caught fire, it would go out in a matter of 2 or 3 seconds (not enough material to produce enough heat to set ceiling on fire).
