This was our defensive pepper spray training at my new job. Actually, it's pretty tame compared to other spray training. Please be sure to note the truck backing up for a better view of the next victim.

  • well, i didnt find anything about CP spray on the internet (Dibenz-1,4-oxazepin) . Can you tell me if it is strong enough ? i have 2% substance (anti-dog), and i may meet very aggresive people anytime. if its not good idea, what else is good defense item ? thanks

  • @mortarman288: um...well I'm no expert, but I'd say any defense spray will be enough to throw an attacker off guard for long enough that you can escape. (That's what they're made for. It will also probably piss the guy off, so run fast.)

It's also worth mentioning that the USACE had a huge conference lasting a week just to decide what their park rangers should carry. (guns, spray, sticks) And the spray was the best protection for lowest liability. Often just the sight of it is a deterrent.

  • Hey, i gotta question... I've been through 1,000 P.O.S.T. hours in Law Enforcement Academy. Would I have to go through a separate academy to be a Park Ranger?

  • ...oh, also. If you like outdoorsy-enforcement jobs, you may want to check your state's Civil Service positions. I got to know this region's Fish Warden, and he was trying his best to talk me into testing into his job. Apparently, they're having a hard time finding people to meet the physical requirements. Training is much like that for state troopers. It sounds fun to carry a gun and drive a boat, but I really don't care to deal with obstinate redneck a***oles.

  • Well, nothing works PERFECT... it's pepper spray. But I think it attacks the binding agents so it's easier to wash off your skin. Otherwise, it sticks around and washes INTO your eyes as you're trying to wash it off your face. The hair too- a few people got a second (lighter) dose when they went home for the day & showered at home.

  • @joespambobcom

There is no neutralizer,. Those decon sprays or towelettes don't work.

  • If you want to be a park ranger for the US Army Corps of Engineers- yeah, you need additional training. My seasonal position is only available to college kids currently enrolled in a full fall semester. To apply for permanent ranger, I think you have to go through the park where you want to work. And yes, you will have to do the Corp's training...and the training seems to be ongoing as long as you work there. (of course it's free, and fun! for the most part)

  • Well I didn't get any "neutralizer" after we got sprayed. Just a bucket of water and soap lol.

I felt the full burn within 15 sec. It burned on one level or another for about 2 hours and all the red was gone with 3 hours. Damn it hurt though. I'd be interested to feel the Taser but policy thats a no-no for training.

  • nah, the second spray was supposed to be some kind of neutralizer. I...don't know how it was supposed to work. :) (I *was* the first ranger to recover that day, though.) It took about 10 seconds for the full effect. How about you?

  • They sprayed you twice??? Before and after puncing the bag? That sucks, I only had to get sprayed before the stupid hit the bag and take a guy down (then again I don't work for ACOE)
