  • Anarchy does not make the world better. Letting misguided people do whatever they want does not make the world better.

The world gets better if we compassionately educate and help the inexperienced, ignorant and misguided; so they understand their Self and others better, and can self-direct their motivations and behaviour towards a Happier and Healthier life.

  • @the uploader: Obviously you are not a parent yourself.

In fact your condemning attitude and self declared 'ethical authority' is in it self a form of domination. Think about that.

  • In fact, she applied many punitive procedures, but I don't gree with her. I recommend that you read about behavior analysis, science developed for B. F. Skinner.

His theory is misunderstood by numerous professionals, including many psychologists, who follow other theoretical approaches, such as cognitivism, psychoanalysis and so on.

Skinner is not in favor of punitive procedures. He usually talks about the advantages and benefits of positive reinforcement in children.

  • Therefore, the goal of improving human happiness should involve the satisfaction of human needs, such as material subsistence and social gratification, along with the limitation of punishment. We can start by admitting that certain conditions in our life control us, and arrange those conditions to maximize our well being. In the case of the two punished people, they should be taught better ways to interact in order to achieve their needs without infringing on others.

  • It seems that your main gripe is not with behavioral methods at all but with an assumption you make about human nature. Our whole lives we are controlled either by others or by our natural survival requirements. The last person alive would require food and would be controlled to act in certain ways to attain food. The only 'liberation' or 'freedom' is death. Further, you wouldn't have a concept of 'freedom' if it weren't for a verbal community to reward you for learning the concept.

  • What a common mistake. A punishment diminishes the frequency of a behavior. Clearly, the child has not misbehaved any less. The fault is not behaviorism, it's ineffectively managed punishment contingencies. In fact, most behaviorists strictly avoid punishment for the reason shown above. It doesn't tend to work unless you can control every last variable in the environment, which is often impossible. If they would reward the child and prisoner for good behavior, they'd get better results.

  • holy jebus, just spank the little brat and put him in his room.

  • and how do you know this kid will be unhappy later on? so yes, he cries, thats what all kids do when they don't get what they want. kids desire boundaries, without them, they become lost and unhappy. like this little boy. but thats only 1 side of the coin, children need to know the reason, they need to be explained and they need to understand if not, all this will be called cruelty. as a society we obey rules, if there are no rules... well, there will be chaos. and chaos brings only misery.

  • I have learned much from this. thank you.

  • So rather than asserting rules to encourage proper behavior and using behavioral science to extinguish unwanted behaviors you're belief is anarchy? let the children/prisoners just discover themselves on their own and everyone else just gets out of the way and comes around to clean up the mess like the piss on the floor from the kid or the blood and dead bodies from the psychpath in the prison?
