The very first version of Cyborg Nation, by Clarinda Mac Low. Learn more about what it is and where it's going at http://www.culturepush.org.
This is the first iteration of Cyborg Nation. It took place at a performance party in Brooklyn, with a wandering audience and periodic performances by several different artists taking place throughout the two floors of the space. I was established in one corner, where I installed a speaker, a projector and a series of statements taped to the wall, and I utilized the random events of the other performances to enhance and shape my own event. I posted signs throughout the space that read Call xxx-xxx-xxxx. Right now. No, really. About 20 people called throughout the 3 hours, and our conversations were broadcast live. In the work sample, I have condensed the three-hour event and approximately 20 conversations into a series of short clips and a longer conversation. This version of the self-contained performance environment (SCoPE) was very rudimentary, mostly consisting of a small wireless camera and a device that converts the signal of a cell phone to signal that can be amplified via speaker.
