Sorry of the passing of Jimmy O.But, would like to make a correction.Jimmy said
that after Tommy Thomas Died his son Billy took over. That's incorrect..Billy died first,
and Billy was Tommy's brother, not his son. After,Tommy died his daughter helped
Tommy's wife run the club..I worked there in the 1970's as a bartender. It was very
special place because of world class musician's. I was very fortunate to have
experienced working there because of the musician's that came through..

The first time I went to the Palomino club was in th e70s , this is the club where every country star there was performed... Marty Robbins... Hank Snow... all of um.

When I used to appear there in the 1980s and 1990s Jerry Lee Lewis was often in the audience. Other regulars included Roger Miller who's son was a friend of mine on Talent Night. Victor French from Highway to Heaven visited the Pal often. Hoyt Axton was a regular. I had worked with Wynn at a radio station in Las Vegas in the 1960s. I last saw him shortly before he died at the Pal. His voice was still great but he was in bad shape.

@starringJayMcK I was at The Palomino several hundred times in the 1980s and 1990s. I was the emcee for the Talent Night show for a month or two in the 1990s. Great bands, too loud, great atmosphere. Fabulous people who were often characters and often very talented and they had real credentials.

Heres a story for you Vics. I went to the Palomino one night (1979?) to see Susie Allanson. The place was mobbed, people spilling out into the street. Turns out Jerry Lee Lewis was making a surprise appearance. They rushed Susie on and off. Then out came The Killer and the place went berserk. Guess Im a total wuss; it wasnt my scene at all. JLL was profoundly trashed and seemed belligerent and dangerous. I surrendered my seat to a big beefy cowgirl and crept quietly away into the night.

The Palomino. Someone should write a book about the legendary little dive. LAs one historic country music honky tonk and a rite-of-passage for the new stars coming up. LA in the 70s, pre-Urban Cowboy, didnt give a hoot about country western. But if you were a fan, you could go to The Palomino, sit four feet from this non-existent stage, and see your favorite radio stars sing up close and personal, all for a two drink cover. Unheard of today!

Not a Comment, but a question. Are you doing a Palomino Club documentary?
Danno Hanks
I began a documentary in the late 90's about The Palomino Club of North Hollywood. This is the first of many short films that I am going to produce with the footage that I have. I have S-VHS footage and need a camera of this archive nature to get the total sound from some of the footage. Jimmy passed and I did this for his widow, Mary. WHo are you?
