I've used these guys before and they fixed my DSi with no problems. I'm sure they must do a job or they wouldn't be in business. They must do so many consoles that a few must slip through the net or get damaged in the post.
It's worth trying to get your console fixed as its better than buying a new one - you have nothing to lose
@Potts2k8 dude i worked at TCR for 16 months (both repairs and office work) their thesis on repairs is 'if it comes back after the warrantee its a good repair.' Not cool.
In their defense, allianz are total pricks to them, and TCR struggle to get parts ordered properly. One incident of this is when we could not get any red topscreen casing for DS's. We were BER'ing perfectly good consoles (beyond economical repair) because of a crack in the casing.
I purchased a PS3 from game, with 2 year extended warranty, PS3 broke, called Allianz who put me through to Total Console Repair and I have had NOTHING in terms of 'progress'.
They have (apparantly) sent me packing instructions and postage label 4 times and emailed me the same info twice! I have been on the phone to them 5 times now (which cost's who knows what) and still, my PS3 is sitting in the same spot, not repaired. I have read numerous comments of people having problems with this company
i had the same problem and i dont like the attitude of there secretarie(s). sent off twice second died within a month :( very unhappy as this was over xmas so i missed out
