BROCKTON — Phyllis Bunker heard the six gunshots outside her Essex Street home and saw someone running away.
Then she heard the noises behind her house.
"I went out and that's when I saw the kid slouched over ... I didn't see him moving at all," she said.
Another teen was sitting on the bulkhead.
"He said his arm was hurting," Bunker said.
She would later learn 15- year-old Terrance Young, for merly of Brockton, was killed and Darryl Jackson, 19, of Boston, described as his cousin, was wounded in the arm in the Tuesday evening shooting.
Now, investigators are try ing to identify the gunman and learn why the two were shot.
Authorities appealed to the public Wednesday for help, urg ing witnesses to come forward with the name of the suspect and any other information about the case.
Investigators found ballistic evidence near Tremont Street and were hoping to gather more.
"It is sad because it is teenagers that are dying, that are being killed," Bunker said.
Until last year, Young had been going to school in Brockton and last attended Ithaka, the alternative program housed at the Lincoln School at Newbury and Highland streets.
One friend, who would only identify herself as Chantell, said Young moved to Boston last year because his family wanted to keep him out of trouble.
"He was a good boy, he really was," the 14-year-old girl said. "He didn't deserve it."
She said Young enjoyed art.
"He was into art. He was into art and music. He was real good at that. It is hard to believe," she said as she paused on Essex Street.
