Shake it and Break it Dutch Swing College
1977 In a TV program from the Netherlands in 1977 called "Music Gallery" modern jazz pianist and TV host Pim Jacobs introduces Peter Schilperoort's Dutch Swing College Band. I have a lot of Dutch people all over the world watching my jazz youtube site. Therefore I left the short Dutch intoduction in. Pim basically said: This band actually doesn't need an introduction because it is so well known and is considered one of the best in Europe, if not the best.
For people who have seen films of this band might be unfamiliar with the trumpet player. Ray Kaart is the brother of Dick Kaart, the trombonist.
I believe Ray always wanted te become the trumpet man of this band, but Peter found him not disciplined enough. For several periods Ray was in the band however Ray was a bit of an individual, he would play bebop notes in an ensemble, etc. I personally find him a man with very interesting ideas
It is a bit overarranged but this does not mean "mediocre". Jan Morks was perhaps "*technically" better than Peter, but you cannot compare them 1:1. To me, the "best" clarinet player in the DSC was Dim Kesber although he was technically behind Peter, Jan and Bob but he played so "hot" and expressive.
