Note there is no fuel gauge on a Ninja 250, you just reset the trip meter and keep track of distance traveled - refueling every 100-150 miles is usually a good idea. Last in this series.

I don't remember a huge clunk noise, but I think it did that to some extent.

you should add a fuel gauge instrument to your bike they are fairly cheap on ebay, customize your clocks set up to look like a cbr clocks set-up, it will look the dogs bollox

I have an older 250r as well ( you probably don't have it now). When you rode/ride did it feel like the shifting was loud? Whenever I shift from first through third I get a loud clunk as it goes into gear. Is that normal?
