According to Billboard, Bobby Rydell had 34 Top 40 hits during his career and was one of the Top 5 recording artists of his era. Of all the teen idols of that period, Rydell certainly had the most polished voice and one that has endured through the years. "So Rare" was not one of his Top 40 hits probably because it never was released as a "single" but was part of a concept album he recorded in 1961. It's vintage Bobby Rydell complete with the "wo-wo gals" singing behind him (who according to Bobby were grandmothers).

  • great singer,,nice guy too..anyone know what happen to him,,,????????

  • @MrRodnas1 Bobby still performs world-wide regularly quite often appearing with both Fabian and Frankie Avalon.

  • Great post! Never heard this until now, but still the great vocals we have always come to expect. Sounds like the same session singers he had on some other hits. Anyone know who they were?

  • @VinDcator Bobby Rydell called those great session singers of his the "Whoa, Whoa" girls...believe it or not all three were grandmothers at the time they were recording with Rydell.

  • Pretty good version but the best vocal on this that I have heard is the one by the "singing-golfer" or "golfing-singer" Don Cherry.

  • Michael Buble must have listened to this record very closely. He seems to have

nailed an impression of Bobby Rydell in his glory years.

  • @MrRodnas1 he still tours and sounds as great as ever.

  • After liking this song for over an unmentionable number of years I finally get the lyrics performed by one of my favorites gents of those days. I'd heard it when I was little and had no idea what he was saying. Beautiful really. Oh boy, I like those background sounds too, all big band like.....go Bobby!

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH nocaro,,,,,for you comment,,,i love frankie avalon too ( venus ) also fabian ( see him in north to alaska with big john ) i seem to remember frankie has 8 or 10 kids,,,,,,,, good for him,,,,,thanks again,,,,,
