Unfortunately, I caught the performance a few minutes into this movement, but the rest of the movement is ON FIRE!

Violin I: Pinkhas Zukerman
Violin II: Ida Kavafian
Cello: Gary Hoffman
Viola: Paul Neubauer
Piano: David Golub (died shortly after this performance)

  • Great!!!

  • @bill070593 Very true! Very charming! Makes me smile. Actually they ARE slightly apart the second before, the pianist is trying to pull it back together … But hey, this is what I call music on fire! Absolutely stunning! Electrifying performance!

  • This is one of my favourite pieces, it sounds really good in this recording - what a shame you missed the first few minutes though!

  • 2:44 ~ 3:20 It`s like a plainsong, I think.

  • @SeanPi314

Because it's expressive and it sounds good.

  • Great Fireworks!

Mr. Neubauer seems so 100% in control that it's actually a bit scary - how can you play this and hardly show a facial expression at all?

  • Can really hear the difference with these all star players.

    ?;^)

  • Honestly I would prefer if there was applause between movements because the chorus of coughs and grunts is actually kind of creepy and unnerving. I think it tarnishes the majesty of the music more than a brief applause would.

  • @jacobcorr True. They could probably read through this and sound pretty good, but being professionals, they also have impeccable ears, so they probably practice a lot of very, very "fine-tuning" things to absolutely try to perfect it, things we may not even be able to hear, unless we are at their caliber.

  • @monobrow638 Ah k, just showing how much I know about classical music :) Still brilliant though!

  • STUNNING! Crisp and passionate, emphasizing all the things that make this score so very interesting, and so very uniquely Brahms. I have always loved how this movement SWINGS! Yes, it's a little fast in spots, which may detract a teeny bit from the swing factor, but damn--these are real musicians. Wish I could hear them do this live.

  • What?! Glissando?! Why?! (3:09 and 3:11)
