I believe music is truly universal because anyone can understand it convey meaning from all ages (even toddlers) and cultures. We couldn't say the same about math because its not taught or learned by all (those closer to birth or developing countries).

@Augustusdavid You are right though, many musicians are good at math. I guess I'm just not one of them! I guess it all depends on the individual like you said. I just don't think math is required for music.

@gajda1984 I think math can be art as well. I also don't think your statement is a rule. Music can teach you to think inside the box at times and math can help you think outside the box. It depends on the approach and the individual doing the approaching.... Many musicians are actually very good at math.

@Augustusdavid Trust me, just a small percentage is. Simple division and multiplying. math is not an art. music teaches you to think outside the box, math teaches you to think inside the box. Too many damn rules, that's why a lot of artist hate math.

math is not created...that is like saying physics is created and thermodynamics have been created in our heads. Sure the words math, physics, and thermodynamics have been invented by us but they are attempting to DESCRIBE something that actually concretely exists
