GAY MARRIAGE: Sen. Boxer says it hasn't hurt HER Marriage

[Originally posted on PoliticsTV in summer 2006] The U.S. House is going to vote on the Federal Marriage Amendment yet again today. Gay marriage (and GOP homphobia) was a big theme at the Yearly Kos blogger convention, but Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) put it best in her speech:

"I've been married for a very long time, and I can tell you, that the fact that two people of the same gender care about each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together, that doesn't threaten my marriage one bit and if anyone says that their marriage is threatened from that then there is something wrong with their marriage. It's not the problem of the other people who want to live together."

Ms Boxer's point is spot on. She turns the table on the ludicrous argument that the bible (t)humpers constantly and shamelessly trot out (unchallenged by the MSM) -that gay marriage threatens hetero.

This is exactly the argument I make to straight people who get vehemently upset about the idea of marriages between adults of the same sex: "Why do you care so much and how is it hurting you?" They never have a reasonable, rational answer.

I hate Barbara Boxer's guts, but I agree. What difference does it make what two consenting adults, gay or otherwise, decide to do in the privacy of their own bedroom? What does it matter if they choose to get married? As long as they're not making out in front of you, how are they hurting you?

@fctchk Read the work of Dr. Robert Spitzer who got this removed from the list of mental illnesses than concluded later that sexual re-orientation therapy trials he conducted were successful & "they do change". That is not belief, that is fact.
