"Lollipops and Roses" was composed by Tony Velona who perhaps is best known for writing "Music To Watch Girls By". Jack's wonderful recording of this song interestingly never made the Top 40 in 1962, but it remains one of his finest performances.

  • Heard this on Mad Men episode Season 2. I remembered the lyrics but couldnt remember who sang it. REal nice song.

  • Wow NoCaro. You really hit me hard with this song. I remember the early 60's and our home . Me and my brothers watching my Mom and Dad snuggling on the couch in our living room with this record playing on the console. I can even envision my Dad's 1960 Chevy Impala in the driveway and all of us eating watermelon on the front porch. Thanks for this sweet posting.

    Peace

  • 0:17 Jack Jones when he was living in Rapture.

  • Tell her you care, each time you speak,

Make it her birthday each day of the week,

Bring her nice things, sugar and spice things,

    Roses and Lollipops,

    And Lollipops and Roses . . .

  • Very smooth tune, and I recall it with great pride....

  • You know, I was 12 years old when this came out. I looked it up. Didn't even crack the top 60! But, I was living in New York & it must have been Top 10 here! Heard it a million times. Great song!

  • @OldMrMemories My dad had a Corvair and a T-bird. What happened to these days? We have not progressed, we have only become more cynical.

  • @123WalshJack I love this show too. I was thinking the same thing. I'm 54 years old and I remember when I was a kid sitting in my dad's office with my younger sister in Los Angeles. I was 6 years old when John F. Kennedy died and I remember asking my dad if President Kennedy was in Heaven. I remember my mother was crying during the funeral. The people in the office talked just the same way they do on the show. What a time. Can we have those days back, I think not. Terrific song.

  • @123WalshJack There is a lot of subtle historical social commentary throughout the entire series. That's a big reason why I enjoy it.

  • Just heard this on Mad Men season 2. I still can't figure out why I like that show so much. There is no action, there's some mystery about Draper's past and that's about it. But I can't stop watching that show and I love it. I love the music too. Maybe it brings me back to when I was just a kid.

  • @monco48 You can live in the sixties . . . when you're watching youtube.

  • i wish i lived in the sixties
