Here are my thoughts on Halo's newest title, Reach.

Please subscribe and comment and even send me requests for games to review.

Hey guys this is SniperWolfHI and I am going to be reviewing the new Halo: Reach by Bungie Studios

Halo Reach, which is said to be Bungies final Halo, is a prequel to the original 2001 Halo game and tells the story of a squad of Elite Spartan soldiers as they defend the Planet Reach from the Convenant invasion.

Let's face it, Halo's gameplay has felt the same since the original. the graphics have improved a bit, and we get new guns and vehicles, but the game is not really that drastically different. So if you were never a fan of the other games, this game will probably not change that. On the other side, if it aint broken, don't fix it. And this game stays true to the Halo series.

My first impressions of this game is that it was a lot like Halo: ODST. A group of soldiers working together on an almost impossible mission. But as I got further into the game I started to feel this game has a style of its own. The levels are gorgeous, the characters are believable, and there are some parts of the game that are totally new to the Halo series.

I wont get into the story much for fear of giving away any spoilers, but it moves along nicely, the cut scenes are much better than ODST, and this story is probably one of my favorites so far.

They've added some things in Reach that I think you'll either love or hate. I personally enjoyed the new armor abilities, things like jetpacks, sprinting, camouflage, armor lock, shield, and my personal favorite, the decoy. But I couldn't help but feel that Halo Reach was a little watered down from earlier installments. They are using a brand new engine, but the game feels a little slower than some other Halos. You don't get as many guns, you can't hold 2 guns at the same time, you have fewer vehicles in the game, and for me it felt like it was over too quickly.

So I wouldn't say this is my favorite Halo to date, but they've added some stuff to make it quite possible the most fun, and that comes from the multiplayer.

Everyone knows that Halo's multiplayer has revolutionized first person shoots in the last 10 years. Halo Reach has taken multiplayer to a new level, although, not without its flaws as well.

First thing I'd like to mention is that you can customize your suit, which gives no real gameplay advantage, but makes you stand out a little better. You can purchase upgrades with in game credits you earn by playing either multiplayer or single player, and you can even do things from changing your helmet to creating stench smoke from your suit, a very cool addition in my opinion.

For the fans of Halo 3's Forge, the Halo level editor, they've added new tools and features to make it much easier to create levels that can be played with the rest of the Halo community, as well as a mega map called Forge World that will simply blow your mind.

To name everything they've added would probably take all day, so I hope this gives you a glimpse into what to expect for those of you that are sitting on the fence about buying this game. I suggest buying this game if you're familiar with the series and plan on continuing playing the multiplayer and putting off that whole getting a girlfriend thing for another few months. If you're just interested in the single player campaigns, you can rent and be done with it in 6-8 hours.

If you haven't heard, Bungie is moving on from the Halo franchise and I think this game is a great legacy to all their hard work.

Thank you for watching, this is SniperWolfHI

  • Actually Halo: Reach has the Halo 3 Engine, Bungies director Marcus Lehto says so early on in the Legendary video on waypoint.

Bungie have become very lazy recently with the two newest halos, they've used the same engines three games on the trot.
