  • That's the irony, we are a third world country with a first world education, arts and medicine. simply beautiful!

  • cubans are AMAZING at style... i mean one of the reasons i LOVE them is despite the poverty and hard work they still have managed to be the largest ballet school in the world as well as the best male dancers and stylistically as well as artistically gifted... its truly remarkable.

  • que bello bailarin! en efecto! bello el estilo, en general!

  • Thanks for brinking of the clearness to this subject! I really enjoy the style.

  • Also, around 5yrs ago the BNC was coming to NY with LS.Kevin Mackenzie dir. of ABT put up a fight against it which he won.ABT was coming in with IT'S prod. After I saw it, I understood why he did what he did.The ABT ver. is a stylistic mess, and didn't want the BNC to upstage it. If he was a smart person, he would have asked Laura Alonso to come and clean up the mess. But, his ego got in the way.

  • Hola Helga,In 1996,I had a talk with Alberto Alonso in New York about LSylph. The secrets were handed by Fokine to the cubans whom he loved in the late 40's.Notice the tempos are slower(as he wanted) than in other versions, and the roundness of the port de bras. The Russians, inhereted them, but, with egocentrics like Grigorovich they strayed from the beat and style.Still, the magic of the piece is bullet proof.

  • I think Alonso and the Cubans really got this true Fokin style through old Russian ballet that even modern Russian dancers didn't inherit.
