This is a short bumper that I am working on for the NeoToonami project, http://www.neotoonami.com . It is designed in the same style as a couple of Toonami bumpers from years ago that are well known amongst Toonami fans: Toonami Bubbles and Toonami Blood. This is just to show the basic animation with sound. I have not applied material settings to the surfaces, because there are so many possibilities that I could not make up my mind which one to do. I plan to make several versions with different material and lighting. If you have suggestions, please comment and let me know. I might decide to use it. :-)

This was made with Carrara 6.2 Pro. I used two particle systems. One for the background, and one for the stream in the foreground. Each system is rendered as meta-balls to achieve the blob effect. It was difficult getting the settings just right. I had to apply low velocity and low strength forces to the background to get them to move so slowly. I applied more intense forces and a faster velocity to the foreground to get it to swirl around quickly.

The sound, I recorded myself. This was kind of fun, since I have not done much foley work before. I used Audacity to record and manipulate the sound. First, I recorded a bottle of water being shaken and slowed it down a lot to get the ambient background noise. Next, I gargled water in my mouth and lowered the pitch a lot to get the foreground bubble sound.

I am really happy with the final product. Next step is applying material!

  • i think it would look great in chrome material, like mercury

  • I had that same idea. I planned to do at least a mercury and a lava lamp. I actually have a mercury version done now, so I may upload in tonight.
