that's why we have shitty covers, boring covers and rarely original covers. Guess which category yours would fit?
The vocal line in BOTN MUST NOT be changed with impunity, unless the vocalist in question is a real musical individuality, with years of experience and several notable achievements.
If he ain't - he shows his lack of professionalism by discarding the genius of the original composer.

Guess what, I didn't play the original drum parts either. Neither did any of the others play their parts like in the the original version. Covering doesn't necessarily mean copying.

reaching the fourth interval to D is actually within his range. he just went wild on improvising the melody and missed the important parts :D

Why is the vocalist NOT following the original melody in verses, based on sixth and ninth intervals? it's those intervals which make the melody so poignant.
