On 10 June 1944, the idylic French village of Oradour-sur-Glane was completely destroyed and 642 innocent men, women and children were massacred by soldiers in Hitler's elite Waffen-SS army. The ruins of the martyred village have been pr"Lest we forget...Months and years have passed since the drama at Oradour; it must remain alive in the hearts of French people, as the clearest example of Nazi cruelty. Let not the France of the future, ennobled by adversity, purified by the sacrifice of so many of its finest citizens, forget the humble and innocent victims, who for the sole crime of being French, paid the ultimate price. Let us not forget them." Quoted from a book published by the Association of the Families of the Martyrs of Oradour-sur-Glaeserved as a reminder of German barbarity.

  • Hi thank you for your kind words.

    Regards T.C.

  • A great piece of filming, thank you for posting. We visited Oradour on route to England from Portugal 14 or 15 years ago and found it very disturbing. However we think that all people should visit this kind of place, especially when young, as a reminder of just what human beings are capable of.Thank God that this kind of atrocity will probably never happen again. We found the kids school the worst experience, with desks and ink wells still in place, and of course the Church with the melted Bell.

  • Oradour sur Glane is worth visiting whether for the amateur historian or the traveller seeking a moment in time to ponder on mankind's inhumanity to man. Nice images here - a shame some of the comments clearly have been made in ignorance. The point is that Oradour is a monument to all the towns and villages destroyed in War and to those innocents who perished. Whether French, British, German, Russian, Italian or Japanese etc etc

  • @bostero1

And,on this number i don't count the 27000 French resistants captured and deported to concentration camps, where they died. These ones were temporary lucky, because they were not executed or massacred right away by the SS,after combat.A lot of wounded resistants were immediately shot, when SS discovered makeshift hospitals in the moutains or in caves, for instance. Same fate for nurses, too, or at minimum, raped. Thousands French civilians, children, women, old persons, were massacred.

  • @RebelSonBand

France had 1 totally destroyed village? UNTRUE.Oradour is the most famous, because it's the sole preserved in the same conditions than after the massacre.A lot of French villages or cities were razed to the ground by Nazis, with the population shot,or massacred.Villages or cities as Maillé, Ascq, Oignies,Issendolus, Argenton sur Creuse, Vassieux en Vercors, Dun les Places,Thauvenay,Tulle,Sainte-Radegonde,Buchères, and many others. More than 30000 French civilians were massacred.

  • @RebelSonBand Unfortunately not too many people in the world care for the Russians. That's probably why they didn't get a video like this one.

  • @TOPCAMERMAN Nice vid,it shows very well the remains of the village....But remember,France only had 1 totally destroyed village, how many was destroyed in the former Sovistunion ?? 1000s was destroyed, millions of ppl killed...
