I'm going to state this. Autism does not cause retardation. I know because I am autistic and I am ahead of a decent number of neurotypicals in my classes. This is the same for many of my friends.

And the ratio of what i have seen for lower functioning autistic students compared to high functioning is 1/5. This means that a majority of autistics i have met are higher functioning.

So stop calling autism a disease which cause retardation. Because it is not.

The fact that so much money gets spent at funding "prevention" research is really horrible, prevention means developing a prenatal test that would lead to routine abortion of children too autistic for our society's eugenic taste.

Any funds that now goes to prevention research needs to be redirected on helping autistic people develop and find a place in society.

And it needs to be acknowledged more that autistic people have alot to contribute to society.

i wish my daughter would have had these opportunities for hi tech measures to enhance her young life, she loved working upon the computers but unfortunately the school she attended didn't have enough for all. i also think she'd have benefited from having a helping dog, i think the dog could have helped her to become more outgoing.

You should check out the video, "Puppies Trained to Help Children with Special Needs" on the Project2Heal channel. This organization breeds, trains and donates lab puppies to help children with autism. What a great cause!

@ischlopischlo: I doubt the spectrum theory so my take is complicated (I believe AS and Autism to be only analogous and adhere to a stricter definition for "autism"). Prevention research is necessary for figuring out what causes low - functioning symptoms, but the genetics studies are disturbing as long as AS - which IS genetic - is included in a spectrum.

BTW: I wouldn't call it eugenic. If what we have been speculating about ourselves is true, than it should be described as DISGENIC tastes.

@MultiSnooty lmao you're an idiot man... do some research before you condemn people whom you dont understand. Beethoven and Einstein were both aspergers which is a form of higher functioning autism. Temple Grandin is another modern example for extremely intelligent and useful people with autism. There are many things you take for granted every day that you have autistic people to thank for. lol, tesla? electricity? autistic = cognitive, thinking minds. Normal = social minds. now slap yourself.
