Best way to kill the Gaping Dragon:
Keep away from the front. At all times. I cannot stress this enough, especially for the weaker players. He will try to grab you and throw you into its mouth, and that's instant kill right there. In addition to that, cut off its tail ASAP, as it will use its tail when you keep hitting it in the back. I did this without any estus flasks, and before I thought I was done for I managed to kill it in this way. Patience is all you need.

When you were in the Capra Demon's lair, how the fuck were you able to just mosey around the ground section, circling dogs, with no Capra Demon in sight? He fucking destroys you if you don't dodge him and then immediately run up the stairs.

@benzaie Yeah, you could buy Gold Pine Resins on the merchant before the Blighttown entrance of the Depths, near the way to the Gaping Dragon.

@benzaie Ah touche, you can indeed use the Gold Pine Resin, but it's expensive and also extremely limited, so you have to make sure that it really counts when you do use it.

It's impossible to get a lightning weapon by the time you fight the Gaping Dragon, by the way. Taking the Master Key at the start also allows you to skip the Capra Demon, the Depths, Blight Town and more. If anyone's actually stuck in this game, check out EpicNameBro's channel, he's done a fairly comprehensive guide of almost the entire game at this point. At least he's done up to Anor Londo at this time.

@chronocrosser you can use an item to add lightning to your weapon, I did it, so I doubt it's impossible !
