Facts:
Mansell beat Piquet in 86' final results table. Lost the WC only due to a tire blowout.
In 87, Mansell had 6 wins - Piquet 3 wins(and one of his wins was inherited after a dnf by Mansell due to a loose wheel-nut with 7 laps to go). Lost the WC because of the Suzuka crash, missing 2 races.
Mansell's 2 wins in 89' were a lot more hard-earned than today's standards. Won in Hungary(!) on the DRY from 12th no KERS or DNS gimmicks, just pure talent and skill.
Mansell = underrated.

@DimwitsCleanser Mansell may have been the quicker driver, but Piquet won the WC in 87 when they were teammates, in part because Piquet was more consistent. That's even with only their best 11 races counting, so all the mechanical DNFs were eliminated. Mansell's 2 wins in 1989 (as well as Berger's) are comparable to Hamilton and Button beating Vettel this year despite the dominance of the Red Bull. I was a Mansell fan back in the day, but I still think he's a bit overrated by many.

You don't know what you're talking about. Mansell was the better driver between him and Piquet. If he had an ounce of luck like Hamilton and Vettel had at their careers, he would have won the wc in 86, and 87. Hamilton and Vettel haven't suffer any physical injuries,Hamilton won the WC in the last corner of last lap of of last race thanks to Glock so really there is no comparison. And Mansell did beat Senna, and Prost in inferior machine when they had the unbeatable Mclaren in 89.

nobody wants any one to die . but more risk , the more thrill you get .
like a drug mule who almost gets caught numerous times but does it for that rush
or the hiker of mount everest knowing he has a good chance of not making it .
it is the danger that gives us the accomplished feeling ......

@blainyrules that's different i'm talking about the drivers themselves crashing into barriers at 180mph and walking away from it, not marshals being hit by flying debris. That is unfortunate and unavoidable sometimes. Crashing hard happens to every driver at some point in their career and without the safety levels they have every time a driver crashed hard they would die or be injured like they were before the high safety levels (like in the 50s-80s)
-
@imnotftw Firstly, if you think no-one's died since 1994, you're wrong. A marshall died in 2001 at Melbourne. Secondly, that's not how it was intended to come across. I wouldn't want anyone in motorsport to die. It just makes it that little bit more exciting when something else happens.
-
@blainyrules yeah you kinda did dipshit. You're saying that you would be more entertained if there was less safety. Cars these days go as fast if not faster than any cars in previous years yet no one has died since 1994. So your statement has no obvious reasoning therefore the only logical reason i can perceive from your statement is that you want people to be less safe for no reason at all.
-
@imnotftw Did I say that? No I didn't, So fuck you.
what are you on about
'ONLY' lewis hamilton could pull something like that..
There are other drivers just as good as hamilton in f1 y'know..
