Remeber, if you think you are good at something, there will ALWAYS be an Asian who is better than you.

is heel and toe used for drifting or grip driving ?

@hoodyman88 Both.

0:42 he made a mistake shifting gears...not complaining, just pointing out that trying to shift to third is a BITCH sometimes...

@aimhelix not exactly, heel-toe is used to prevent sudden/excessive rear to front weight transfer while downshifting which could upset the balance of the vehicle and cause it to lose control. heel toe is also easier on the drivetrain. it isnt used to engine brake, the front of the car pushes down simply because of the car's inertia during brake application(weight transfer). it keeps the engine's rpm in the proper power band while braking so they can accelerate out of the turn like you said.

@ramentasty8 also casual driving is harder to heel toe if you are going to be braking hard since the rpms are so low compared to racing. if i'm in overdrive i almost never heel toe since even the slightest blip of the throttle will bring the rpms too high for the lower gear.
-
@ramentasty8 takes practice. if you floor the brakes they will lock up. race cars are never set up to be able to floor the brakes and not have them lock up. i think they do require less braking force on the pedal to threshold brake tho. when i brake hard i have to remember to lift my heel up and pivot to blip the throttle, if less braking effort, i pivot and push my heel down. you can also adjust the pedals but you shouldnt because it helps you learn to become a better driver

@hoodyman88 Both, but sometimes for a drift technique called shift lock, u DON'T heel toe, causing the car to slide. But mostly, its used to NOT slide while downshifting but it is still used when drifting when the driver does NOT want to use shift lock technique. Hope that made sense srry for late reply xD

@tdiesel85 unlike truck drivers we shift gears insanely quick, while trucks merely cannot due to the fact nothing could take that beating.
the same concept applies yes, most trucks i've driven you also have to double clutch.
Does anybody know if he is doing this quick becuz he can floor the brakes? I mean the reason why its so hard for me is cause i need to make sure i keep the brakes steady during casual driving, so its harder for me to do it quickly, so i guess its easier if u floor the brakes?

@ramentasty8 No, the reason for a heel-toe shift is so the driver can work the brakes and the clutch at the same time while rev-matching when shifting to a lower gear. You notice they do this coming into turns so a:) engine braking takes effect, pushing the front of the car down and in turn gives the turning wheels more traction and b.) prepares them to accelerate with great torque coming out of the turn.
