Here is a re-creation of the Beatles song "When I'm Sixty-Four". I'm posting this on my 44th birthday. Hmmm...64 is only 20 years away. Interestingly, Paul McCartney was 20 years younger than I am now when he recorded this song. What does this all mean you ask? Um...I think it means that I should go have some cake... :-D

Just as was done on the original recording, I performed the song in the key of C and then sped up the final mix by approximately a half-step. I'm playing and singing all the parts. What you see in this video are the actual performances as I recorded them. There is no "lip-syncing" or miming. Enjoy!

  • what are you playing from 0.58 to 1.07? the bell sounding stuff

  • @spoonfulism Those are called chimes or tubular bells.

  • this is absolutely brilliant! i'm in the process of recording this song for my A2 music tech recording, & was just wondering what software you used to speed the mixdown up a semi-tone? and also whether you were able to get hold of the original in the key of C? i'm having trouble finding an mp3 so if you know of anywhere to get it, it would be greatly appreciated :)

  • @hollywollydownton I would think most audio editor programs should be able to do a speed change. Keep in mind, you want the pitch and the "tempo" of the song to change together (like it does in the analog world of records and tape). The free software Audacity has an effect called "Change Speed" that accomplishes this. I think a setting of 5 percent should work. You could even use this on the original recording (-5 percent) to slow it down to the key of C.

  • This is superb. Love how concerned you're about the every single detail.

It's just really nice to see people who really enjoy music like you.

  • @luizeduard0 Thanks!

  • @BUCollegeDems Actually, I recorded it in C and sped it up to Db, just like they did on the original.
