On 25 April 2009 N7 69621 became the first Great Eastern designed locomotive to haul revenue paying passengers over the former Wymondham Wells line since the early 1960s. After her brief stay at the Mid-Norfolk line, 69621 will return to its current home at the North Norfolk Railway.

  • Very nostalgic. I travelled on this line many times from Norwich to Wells as a child in the 1950s, usually behind a 'Claude Hamilton'. 62564 and 62577 were regulars. Later it was Class 101 and Derby Lightweight DMUs until closure in 1964. There was always lots of activity at Dereham.

  • Hi John? As a youngster living in a village close to Fakenham in the 50s. Having the choice of two railway stations from which to travel was a luxury I suppose we took for granted at the time.. Unfortunately by the time Id left school in 1963 both had all but gone. But like you fond memories of the local rail network remain etched for ever..

  • continueed ... From my classroom at the old Fakenham Secondary School I would watch those 101s and Derby Lightweights as they disappeared into the cutting as they approached Fakenham from Wells then waited to see the Wells bound service emerge some considerable time later..Thats probably why I never learned much at school :o)..

  • Very nice indeed I have to say, an excellent pan shot also I have yet more practicing 2do before i'm that good. If they'd had mk1's behind her it could have been like the mid 1950's :-)

  • Thank you Philip you're to kind. To be honest I completely messed up that shot! My intended point of focus during panning was to be on the footplate crew! So it really annoys me every time I watch that sequence now. But yes your absolutely right a rake of Mk1s would have looked great :o)..

  • What a wonderfully made video! Excellent quality, thank you for posting.

  • Jó videó, tetszik!! :)

  • Bloody shame that they saved the worst N7 of them all. It was 'London Pilot' for many years and when we had a failure 'Enfield engine' they gave us that! It was slow and never 'steamed properly. The drivers position was the wrong side too.

I much preferred to work the 'long travel valve' N7's, they were far superior. Happy days 1957-80.

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Beautifully crafted video Peter - 5* I really must get out to this railway - it looks splendid! Thanks for sharing - Mike

  • Great Vid, used to watch N7s as a child at Northumberland Park Station, they were the reason that i got interested in trains.
