Documentary: In the late 1990s, the Dalai Lama led a crackdown on the Dorje Shugden, accusing its worshippers of being an 'evil cult'. Dorje Shugden, an enlighted protection deity, has been worshipped in Tibet for thousands of years without conflict. Among the worshippers of the Dorje Shugden are the late teachers of the Dalai Lama himself.

Initially, refugees tried to flee to Tibet, but were refused at the Chinese border for their association with the Dalai Lama. Some have returned to India, practicing their religion in secret, while others have moved to Western Europe and North America.

This persecution has become progressively more virulent, and in January 2008, the Dalai Lama issued a new proclamation requiring all Tibetans to sign a declaration forsaking the practice forever and promising not to associate in any way -- spiritually, financially, socially or materially -- with anyone who does not sign.

  • @ ForJamuqa

    Buddhism emphasizes compassion.

Since 1959 His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama has received over 84 awards, honorary doctorates, prizes, etc, from around the Word, in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence, inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion. So I think your sources of information are not good at all.

    .

HH the Dalai Lama has Worldwide support because he is the Great MAN of PEACE !!!

  • @ForJamuqa The Gelugpa's have dominated Tibet for a long time, though it is wise to look at each school master individually. This Dalai Lama is removing Shugden practice from his own school, and he has every right to do that. By the way, it is the Shugden practitioners who are brutal (for murdering 3 people) and the reason he wants them out is because they actually block and forbid the Buddhas teachings from other schools. Shugden is the dictator has dominated the Gelugpa school for 400 years.

  • The Dalai Lama is a great fraud and deceiver. There is not enough red carpet for his ego.

  • @ eyeshowyou

Li Hongzhi has an amazing knowledge. You can download his books and speeches from falundafa. org

Compared with Li we don't seem to know much.

  • @ MrFamine6

In 1963 (only 4 years after he escaped from Tibet)

HH the Dalai Lama presented a draft democratic constitution for Tibet.

    .

In 2001 the first direct democratic elections were held by the Tibetan people for the post of Kalon Tripa (Senior Minister) in the history of Tibet. Democracy is already firmly established for Tibetans.

    .

HHDL has stepped down from being Tibet's leader and brought Democracy to Tibetans. Its a pity the CCP didn't do the same.

  • Actually the Dalai Lama is known as a great man of peace because that's how he is portrayed by the media. Like all religious leaders all he wants is obedience and a place of power for himself and those of his ilk. Try doing some research instead of just believing what you see on television.

  • @Carlos7Matute dont believe videos so easily.

  • religion???? believe in yourself and meditate!! we dont need lama's , gurus, jezus, gods.........yes we can learn from masters........but dont forget that we are masters too.......we only need to go inside ourselves instead of looking outside.......we need to believe in ourselves and treat people around us the way we like to be treated. we can live in peace if we finally understand that we are all ONE!

  • @TheDharmaKnight I would love to debate you. Protectors are in their own class. What would make you say the protector is Manjushri?

  • I find this post ignorant and annoying.

  • @TheRedNiece I understand. But I also agree that the Dalai Lama has the right and freedom to remove or add practices to his school. The followers of Shugden are encouraged to start their own school.

  • @thepixieful The Bon have finally been accepted, but they lived as outcasts before that. It is the oldest practice in Tibet, predating the introduction of the Buddhas teaching. However, today it has incorporated Buddhist practices. The Bon ancestors of Tibet were a great warring tribe. When Buddha was introduced in Tibet, the Buddhists shunned those who engage in warring. However, Tibet has suffered a long history of warring clans despite the introduction of the Buddha, and now Chinese occupatio

  • Fuck the dalai lama hes as big a cunt as the pope.

  • the people who are scared of the shugden practicioners and react like that have nothing to do with the dalai lama at all -.- and there is no ban, you are free to practice dorje shugden

but isnt buddhism about spirit worshipping??? i dont think so ...

  • Give me some evidence; cite some references. Otherwise, this is propaganda and nothing more than misinformation. Oh, wait, you have no evidence. . .

  • this IS a surprise. some climbers say Bon shamanism is also not accepted. I do not know. what sort of religion is this sect?

  • damn and i respected this guy : /

  • The Buddhist scriptures I'm aware of present less advocacy of violence than the writings I've seen from any other major spiritual tradition. How sad that even this peaceful teaching has, in our time, been infiltrated by bitter conflict and attack. May peace yet be attained by us all.

  • what we should try to understand is that not everyone is a spy, or has any negative wish to thwart the Tibetan effort for independence. For many DS practitioners, it is not about any of that, or any politics. It is simply a wish to uphold commitments of a practice to their teachers and to be able to continue praying to a deity they have held preciously their whole lives.
