First spoken word poetry I wrote about 2 weeks ago (1/8/12) to start off with a new year's resolution of trying something new.
Titled: "Temptations & Sins"
Also my first time performing spoken word poetry.
Temptations? Sins?
What do those words mean anyway?
See I don't mean to sound mean but you taught me those words before I dusted off the first book on your bookshelf
Went from learning my ABCs and 1, 2, 3's
And I picked up on that quick cause
3 months later and you said you were blessed with getting your GED
You were blessed because
Now you could get high and reserve yourself a spot on cloud 9
But it's funny how you were never high enough to hear the angels calling your name
To stray you away from the..
Oh... so that's what temptation is.
Oh... so that's what sin is.
And I hope God forgives me for the temptation of trying to save a demon who once loved me
And I hope God forgives me for the sin of killing myself only to keep you alive
I guess that's just how it is when you say I don't have to worry cause
Your brothers have your back
And so now you forget about the sister who's always been by your side
To be ignored when I've only poured my heart out in attempting to save you
I poured my heart out more than the pouring tears from my eyes
And now I can only imagine what my heart looks like from the inside
When the venom of the desert snakes is somehow the only cure
To keep my heart from shriveling into ashes like the ashes
You never brushed off your shoulder as the devil stood there
and became your right-hand man
See I wish you could just face your future eye to eye
Rather than repeating your past mistakes drink to drink
And I promise if you gave it a chance the sun would illuminate the nightmares into dreams
I know this cause from what I can see, it's only blinding me
When who you call "brothers" leave you helplessly dangling on the hook like you're just bait
I hope you finally see that you set yourself up as prey
And I can only continue to pray that I reel you back up in time
Before the demons drown you in the blood they cleaned up for you
And I know you're too blind to see but I'll be your eyes
To show you that even the demons offered to sacrifice their own time to
Clean up your dirty work and
you accept the dripping rags
that went from white to red cause
That's the only homey you have now to smear a smile on your face
The difference between you and me is your memories were engraved on broken concrete
And so you clench that rag and drink dead man's blood
You clench that rag like it's something to hold on to as if it's your pride
But once you start to feel yourself die
The only thing you'll clench is the cross necklace I gave to you
And on the other hand, the book of life you pray to God you find your name in
So when you look around and no one is there by your side
Just know that if you need me I'll be right by God's side
And I'll know the day when you carry yourself in the right direction
Cause that'll be the day when we finally meet again without the wrong intentions.
And since you were too occupied with selling substances of addiction,
I hope that whenever you see me staring back at your reflection
Will be a reminder that, you were the one who left me to die
So don't you dare tell me that I was only kidding when I said,
I'll be right by God's side.
And don't you dare ignore me when I'm calling your name
To stray you away from
The temptations and sins.
