A number of people commented that they thought it in bad taste for the videobytes of Tony Hamilton in the "Cover Up" opening version #2 to be so much like those of Jon-Erik Hexum in the "Cover Up" opening version #1. The similarities, however, have nothing to do with bad or good taste or anything like that. There is a valid reason that they are alike which is being forgotten: the videobytes of the two men have little to do with each other, and everything to do with the videobytes of Jennifer O'Neill. They must contrast hers and show them to be opposites, otherwise the opening fails to show the basic premise of the series. In this video, each bit from version #1 is immediately followed by the matching bit from version #2. There are notes along the way to help explain what you are seeing. You do not have to like what the show did, but it helps to know why they did it. There is some additional information at the end of the video dissect that others were asking about.

My Web site on Jon-Erik Hexum went online October 18--the 25th anniversary of his death. Please visit at http://jon-erik.vndv.com

This video dissect was created with kindness (no hate involved!) primarily for bluecanvas2, LadyKC67, and luciremagazine.

  • I was only 12 when this happened so I don't remember how fast they resumed the series. I would say that it would have been faster just to splice in Hamilton footage were Hexum once was. Don't forget that they didn't have computerized editing back in 1984.

  • @sailorx72 Hamilton footage was spliced in. But many were offended by similarities between the 2 men's footage. Larson & 20th Cent-Fox did make opening changes, even to Jenn's clips. But time was short & some things can't be changed: fact that Jon-Erik & Tony were similar build & type won't change; both characters were tough military men...how do you take away the camous and still show this? There was no break in production. Jon-Erik's final episode was Nov. 3 & Tony’s first episode was Nov. 24.

  • Tony Hamilton had nothing on Jon-Erik, but I hated this show. Jon-Erik didn't like it much either.

  • There also was a group of beautiful models standing in a clip, I remember that also being in the intro or the ending credits, especially a model playing the character "Gretchen", she was so lovely.

  • In both versions, Jennifer O´Neill´s beauty is awesome!

For reasons unknown, the Tony Hamilton "age" was exibited here in Brazil BEFORE the Hexum "age", and by two different networks (Hamilton on TV Globo, Hexum on now defunct TV Manchete)

The name here was changed to "Retrato Falado" (Mugshot).

  • Is this show is on DVDS?

  • I like me.................XD

  • @LadyKC67 The webhost had a server meltdown, so my site was completely lost. All but the photo galleries are back up, now at jon-erik.99k.org.

  • Yeah, the reasoning make sense. I always figured it was quicker, easier and cheaper than doing a totally new opening title sequence. Still, I think they were doomed no matter what they decided to do so they did the best thing they could at the time.

  • This is sung by Bonnie Tyler, the theme tune was sung by Elizabeth Daily.
