#1 Home Made Helicopter Gyro on Test Rig (13-04-2009)

Early testing of a "Heading Hold" model helicopter tail rotor gyro. The device is based on a Silicon Sensing CRG20-02 MEMS gyro sensor.

Still very much work in progress, but even at this early stage the performance is extremely good.

We mounted the heli (an old Trex) upside down for convenience as we didn't want to have to worry about the main blades when in close proximity to the helicopter, i.e. on my kitchen table with us sitting close by...

The motor is still in its usual place inside the heli. Once we'd got the gyro software "mostly" working we put the blades back on for proper flight testing.

Ahh, helicopter flight simulator... ya gotta teach the babies how to fly this way otherwise we'd have a lot of crashes when they grow up to be biggins!
