Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 to move into a share of the lead in English soccer's Premier League.
Danny Welbeck got the first goal and set up the second for Anderson before England international striker Wayne Rooney completed the scoring for defending-champion United at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester.
The 16th straight home win in the league for United moved it to a maximum six points. Crosstown rival Manchester City and Wolves are the only other teams to have won their first two games of the season. It was the first match of the campaign for Spurs.
United took the lead in the 61st minute when Welbeck met Tom Cleverley's cross with a header that flew across Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel into the corner of the net.
It was Welbeck's second league goal for United, his previous strike coming three seasons ago against Stoke.Four minutes after Welbeck scored, Rooney forced U.S. national goalkeeper Friedel to dive high to his right to turn a shot around the post.
United made it 2-0 11 minutes later. After breaking down the left flank, Anderson played the ball to Welbeck, whose back- heeled return pass allowed Anderson to slide a rising left-foot shot past Friedel.Rooney headed in Ryan Giggs's flicked cross in the 87th minute.
