The 2009 World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Draft was be the seventh Draft produced by the American professional wrestling promotion WWE. It was held on April 13, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia from Philips Arena. The Draft took place live on WWE's flagship television program Raw, which aired on the USA Network in the United States. The 2009 WWE Draft marked the third time that it would consist of the Raw, SmackDown, and ECW brands, in which male and female wrestlers, general managers and commentators were eligible to be drafted. A supplemental draft will also be held on April 15.
The Brand Extension storyline was initiated in March 2002, in which WWE's Raw and SmackDown! television programs were made into brands that employees were assigned to work for; the ECW brand was later added in 2006.[5] Since its original inception, annual drafts have followed since, except for in 2003.[6] The 2009 WWE Draft was confirmed by WWE via their website on February 11, 2009, and that it would take place eight days after WWE's prime pay-per-view WrestleMania XXV, on April 13, 2009 in Atlanta, Georgia from Philips Arena. As of its announcement, only male and female wrestlers, general managers and commentators were eligible to be drafted.[1] It was also announced that a supplemental draft would be held on April 15.[2][3] On the day of the draft, it was announced that for the third consecutive year, matches would determine which brand received a draft pick; 12 superstars were announced to switch brands.

this draft was so against Smackdown and ECW, I mean they kept Triple HHH and Carlito on Smackdown for one year and now they bring them back to raw and only one superstar got drafted to ECW the Russian hero, I mean last year's was balanced having Rey and Batista drafted to Raw while Triple HHH and Jeff Hardy got drafted to Smackdown. But despite Raw getting better drafts, Teddy Long is doing a pretty decent job using the new drafts for Smackdown now if only JR had Foley for commentry again
