I think the most effective way to stop the spreading

Good educative video, but you can't always protect yourself.  SH#T Happens, but syphilis doesn't happen in most cases, thank god.

If you got fears with your genitals, don't be scared. Just call the anonymous service I called(no family doctors, that's embarrassing), and they will consult and direct you to their test center and if needed get you results in mail quickly. Very cheap too.
