There are (apparently) over a thousand different keyboard shortcuts in After Effects alone, so you'd have to be a robot to know them all. In this video, I share some of my favourite and obscure keyboard shortcuts that will help you work better and faster.

  • dude these shortcuts none worked for me :/

    - and + zoomed the composition

    ' activated grid

crtl alt down flipped all my screen upside down

    wtf xD

  • @jachvideos For the +/- rotate shortcut, make sure you're using the NumPad keys as stated in the video. Yes, the ' key will bring up the title safe guides, but the video is talking about the accent grave key (or tilde key) which is under your Esc key. it looks similar - `

For CTRL+ALT-DOWN, my guess is that you're running an ATI graphics card, and the display rotation is also using that shortcut. After Effects is not flipping your display upside down - your graphics driver is.

  • I DONT HAVE NUMPAD FOR MARKERS NEED HELP NOW!

  • @fugdkn Demanding help is rarely the best way to get it. But here's a clue - look at the symbols above the number keys on your keyboard.

  • how do you cut clips

  • @MasterSnipezzz ctrl+shift+d will split a clip.

  • @fattyface20 With the Delete key.

  • Some excellent shortcuts there, I learnt alot.

If I had to say what my top short cut is, it would be CTRL+SHIFT+D

This splits a layer and acts like the razor/slice tool in premiere - very handy indeed.

  • @shortformvideos thanks!

  • Hi Laurence - useful tips... thank you.

Here's one that I don't think may know. When making a vignette, if you double click the ellipse tool it will fill your comp with an ellipse automatically so you don't have to drag it out. Love your show reel too. Nice work.

  • Thanks for these!

Ctrl and bracket keys [ ]

To move layers up and down in the layer stack.

    Simpler than Ctrl+Alt+ vertical arrows

    Works in Photoshop too.

  • Thanks a lot !

  • ctrl+ (alt)+ z when i fuck up ahah
