"The intial shock." That is the point to this scene. Between the reveal and the point where people "warms up," there is going to be panic. It's like screaming fire in a crowed theater, where people can give in to the fight or flight mob behavior, tearing though anything to survive. For Example: Post 9/11, the Civil Rights Movement, Cold War, the Inquisition, Black Plague, the Purge, and so on.

A single person in said event will most likely question and rationalize the threat level.

I read the comic. I still don't understand. Am I missing something? Am I just stupid? xD

I disagree. I think that Tommy Lee Jones is right. People like to dominate, be on top, and control things. We wouldn't want to share this universe with another life form--hell we can't even share with one another. He is right. We like to feel that we have a good handle on things. Anything that upsets that or runs contrary to that we can't handle. We are creatures of habit.

One of the more interesting alien conspiracy theories is that the government is purposely leaking abduction information to slowly prepare people for the big reveal.

It would be a slightly different kind of movie without the hyphen.

I disagree with this. I think that, if a reality like MIB actually existed, it would be in the best intrest of the people, to tell them about aliens. Keeping stuff like that secret is dangerous.

I feel after people had gotten over the intial shock, they'll soon warm up to the idea that we are not alone in the universe.
