As I grew up I have always gotten a fake Christmas tree. It was the tradition to drag out that box dig through the artificial branches and find the stick pole of a trunk and the metal stand. Then finding the right size branches and sticking it in the holes. Then we got to decorate it with all the lights, tinsel, and ornaments. My husband and his family have always gone out and got a real tree. I didn't understand why someone would want to go out in the cold snowy weather to get a real tree. This year my husband wanted to take our 2 1/2 year old daughter to get a tree. I stayed home with our newborn while they did that.So they went to the Whitehouse Christmas Tree farm. After being away for over 2 hours they finally pulled in with the tree on the top of the SUV. Clair came running in to show me what they got. We had a wonderful time decorating it. After we got done puting
everything up and puting the boxes away we got to look at the pictures of what my husband took at the tree farm, and then I understood why it is so much better to get a real tree. It's not just a tree to me anymore its the tradition, the story, the fun of finding and getting that special tree. The story of the pictures are that my daughter got to walk around with my husband on the tree farm finding that 1
tree that was going to be in our living room during this holiday season. The choice was a Fraser fir, not to big,
not to small, perfectly round and full. Oh and not prickly so she could help put on the ornaments. After they found it someone helped them cut it down. Then they went around and enjoyed the farm some more. They got to sit by a campfire, eat a hot dog, drink some hot cocoa (which was a first for my daughter), and enjoyed a horse drawn wagon ride. Then they had the excitement of coming home and puting it up. It's a whole new experience I have never experienced and I can't wait for next year to take my son and go out as a family and keep a tradition of getting a real tree.I find myself sitting on the couch staring at the tree and thinking of the great memory that we have made for
my daughter. It's not just her first real tree, it is also mine. Have a Merry Christmas!
