@dem24utube Wow, that's so not true. Fachs define what rep is appropriate for a voice, and emerged as a way of protecting singers from being contracted for the wrong roles. It's not an exact or hard and fast science, of course. Only idiots think it is. But if more people than "vocal students" cared, we wouldn't nave Dessay singing Traviata. Lord.

Quanto mi manca la Scotto. La volevo tanto bene.

@dem24utube yes, yes, a thousand times yes!

such an intelligent singer. awe inspiring. the perfect balance of vocalism and expressiveness, not that i expected anything less from La Scotto. Brava.

I enjoy your postings, I just wish it wasn't a competition. It would be perhaps more enjoyable if it was a forum/invitation for people to say what they love about each artist's interpretation. Still, thank you for your posts =))!!!

Callas only did Marguerite's Jewel Song in recital. I am not aware of her doing the role on stage.

@PercivalBlakeney Yes this is the aria that the hilarious diva Castafiore sings in the French Tintin comics. She only sings the opening lines "Ah je ris de me voir si belle" but that's from Marguerite's Jewel Song in Faust.

SUPER!
-
Is this the same song(aria) that Castafiore sings throughout the Tintin books??
All advice gratefully received.

Renata Scott is one of the all-time great Marguerites. She has an exciting, dramatic soprano voice and a lot of passion, which is required for the character of a fallen woman who fights the Devil for her soul. Maria Callas understood that, as did Mirella Freni, and they make very magnificent Marguerites.
Look, singers,
She is a soprano. Nobody cares about these stupid classifications except for young vocal students.
She is a singer--an artist. She and her coaches decided which roles she would take on and which she would not.
It's ok, you're both young. One day if you ever have singing careers you will understand.
Signed,
