It wasn't the DA - it was the parole officer! If you look right after they read the verdict, you can see him sitting behind Morton's daughter.

I don't think it was the DA. Out of both of them, the Da has a softer look then the murderer. I have no idea who the killer was though. The reason this episode was so good is because Jerry Bruckheimer produced it. National treasure and pirates of the carribean. GO JERRY!!!
