Whenever you see proposals in the movies, they seem so elaborate and dramatic they far outreach what seems realistically possible in real life. Still, some of us cant help but imagine and hope that someday, real life could even somewhat resemble those fairytale movie moments. On October 10, 2009, I was lucky enough to experience mine.
My boyfriend, Shyd ("Sid"), had set up a scavenger hunt to a few significant locations to our relationship that would eventually lead to him. He had the help of our friends to wait at the locations (besides my room and his car) where they gave me more clues and a gift related to that significant place.
The scavenger hunt began in my room: where he asked me to be his girlfriend exactly three years from the day he proposed.
Clue 1 led to "Cory," Shyd's car that took us EVERYWHERE in our relationship.
Clue 2 led to Riverside Plaza Regal Cinemas: where Shyd and I watched our first movie as friends. We didn't know each other too well at the time, so we felt a movie would be a good buffer to awkwardness =p Turns out we probably didn't need the movie. =]
Clue 3 led to Shyd's college apartment: my second home during college, where constant hang outs took place together and with friends. Both our friendship and our relationship were grown and strengthened here.
Clue 4 led to our college's Belltower: another place our friendship grew during long, cold nights of dance practices with our Filipino Organization.
Clue 5 led to the college's Arts Building Dance Stairwell and Balcony: where Shyd and I first met and were paired together by chance to dance during Tinikling tryouts in 2006. Now is also significant as the spot where he proposed to me.
On the balcony, Shyd was waiting surrounded by candles shaped into a heart. There, we watched a slideshow that summarized our relationship from friendship, to where we were standing at that very moment. After the slideshow, he turns to me and pours his heart out. He then takes out the ring from his pocket, gets down on one knee, and asks me to marry him. My answer: "Of course! Yes!"
After it all, Shyd calls out, Okay guys, and at that moment, our friends around the corner to the balcony and from behind the projector screen. They were accomplices in this whole event! We shared a group hug, surrounded by the candle-heart, and the only sentence I could think to say is: I have a fiancé!!!
Turns out i got a blister from scavenger hunting in heels. I guess there MUST be a touch of reality even in those real-life movie moments. Needless to say, it was TOTALLY worth it, I'd keep trekking in heels knowing that it would eventually lead to Shyd ^-^
**I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who worked behind the scenes to make our fairy tale movie moment possible:
- Yun: for the amazing slideshow that played moments before the proposal.
- Jeff Fajardo: for his beautiful piano arrangement that played as Shyd proposed.
- Boardgames: for being my clues, helping shyd prepare all the little details, and being there to share the moment with Shyd and me (both physically and in spirit [[palafox ^-^]]
- UCPD and Paul Richardson: for letting us use the building after business hours XD
So sweet. Did you guys get married yet? <3
