Instead of seagulls, Iʼm hearing a thrush. It could be a blackbird. It donʼt matter much. ʻCould be my hearing. Iʼve missed so much sleep. Iʼm too ʻdiggy diggyʼ. The lavender bathʼs up around my ears. The sound of construction, Iʼm growing a beard. I read Che Guavera in a watery heap. Iʼm too ʻdiggy diggyʼ. All the driving round the world has left me short of breath. Iʼve run my engine down I ainʼt got nothinʼ left. Delicate. My little apartment is full of clothes and empty boxes. Thatʼs how it goes. Iʼm so overdrawn, I think I should sell my soul. The rattling cough that Iʼve had for weeks is drilling a whole in the back of my dreams. And Iʼm coming up with some crazy schemes. Iʼm too ʻdiggy diggy. All the driving round the world has left me short of breath. Iʼve run my engine down and I ainʼt got nothinʼ left. Delicate. Iʼve just wrapped a parcel for the girl in New York. I should go and post it if I could only walk. Now Virginiaʼs dangerous as Iraq. Itʼs just too ʻdiggy diggyʼ.
