16 mm Color Film shot by Oscar Fitzhenry courtesy of Jeff Johnson. This footage was shot from the gunner's position on a B-24 during a raid over Truk. The video shows the B-24 formation with fighter escort bombing a target and returning to base. This film is an invaluable resource to help us witness a B-24 raid in the South Pacific in color. It's some of the best B-24 footage I have ever watched. www.missingaircrew.com

  • My great-uncle flew missions to Truk for the 7th from Kwajalein in the Pistol Pakin Mamma # '989. 9 of 10 KIA over Marcus, 9-11-44. this footage is a real prize and I'd like to attach or link to my Liberator log blog.

  • The waist gun view is what my Uncle would have seen. He was shot down and and was rescued by Hungarian partisans. He spent Christmas 1944 in Russia. His story was amazing. Thanks for the great vid.

  • a P39 as escort together with the corsairs?

  • My uncle was an engineer on a B-24 that went down over New Ireland Island in Dec. 1943. Oscar Fitzhenry's crew threw supplies to the stranded men, but they were captured and put in Rabaul prison camp. My uncle was executed by the Japanese in March 1944. Thanks for posting this great video.

  • Best video I have seen of B-24's. My dad also flew one----8th A.F. England 1944-45.

  • Oscar Fitzhenry is my father. I watched this film when I was 5 or 6 years old. Unfortunately, some of it has deteriorated thru the years. His interest in photography evidently started when he was confined to base for 90 days or so because he buzzed the base hospital in a single-engine trainer in an effort to impress a nurse! He flew General Harmon down to Australia a time or two. Of course, he and the crew used the opportunity out of theater to scavenge. That's how he got the film.

  • Outstanding footage. My dad flew a B-24 in the 8th AF. I have never seen footage like this. I had the opportunity to fly in in a B-24 a few years ago. What an experience. Thanks
