@edfeltch TED NUGENT did the best one, and this one is the second best. LOVE is the 3rd best. All are close. Mel Torme and Manfred Mann did the OLD PEOPLE'S BAR LOUNGE versions. very boring and vanilla.
I met Miss Buell in 1974 in Virginia Beach, her mother was supported by fighter pilots from the NAB Oceana.Later I became friends with Elvis Costello who I presume was influential in picking the material ,he worships Burt Bacharach as a deity.Elvis and BeBe were "cuddly"in 1981.
@joesphx19 Hadn't heard Nugent's version before. Again, for me, it doesn't quite make it. I think it's because Love's version sounds so spontaneous and full of youth and joy. I believe that Bacharach hated their version. I quite like Manfred Mann's version, probably because it is done completely differently, like the Mel Torme rendition.
She has obviously heard the version by Love. Quite enjoyable but the keyboard sounds are a bit irritating. Still prefer the Love version, but then they were part of my youth, way back in the sixties.

Same with me, this song just doesn't work her way and it can be stretched as far as Ted Nugent and Mel Torme.
