On the 9th of May 2009 public protests resumed. During the winter the pipelaying ship could not work but with the summer weather it was due to arrive shortly. The local people object that the high pressure pipe will pass very close to their homes and any leak could result in a devestating explosion. National and international supporters stand by the right of communities to insist that their welfare and safety not be sacrificed by rich companies, polititions and businness men who live far from the danger and profit from the low cost options taken. The gas rightfully belongs to the Irish people but has been privitised by neo liberal fanatics with huge influence in government over the past decades.

After watching the tv show the pipe i am disgusted with shell. they could build the pipeline where the community & priests suggested but shell think that they have the right to do as they please that they are above the law. Shell should hang their heads in shame!!!!!

Christ. Hippies against progress, posing 'peaceful protests'? Looks more like two bunches of people that don't want to be there, trying to hurt each other over an invisible substance and not yet there pipeline. What radical, new thinking this all is. Can't wait until the season kicks off again this year (2011) and see more videos of this utterly inane behavior.......

Youtube has to do better than just block comments. It seems to me that all comments should be shown.
It seems that now the only responses to Williams piece were immediate. Since comments are now blocked - that does a disservice to reflection, or giving considation to a post with more recent developments. Youtube does not enhance democracy in this instance.

@Prokick2008 EXCUSE ME, who died and made you the ruler of Ireland, Who are you to determine who owns this land of ours, the North of Ireland is under occupation, it's quite obvious to me that your a bit of a blue shirt fascist, when the people of Rossport called for help, people came in their droves from all over this Island of OURS, so leave the politics of this country well and truly out of this equation.

support partition? i think the entire nation voted to amend the constitution and remove our claim to the six counties. why would we want th six counties? the loyalist community has as much right to it as the nationalists. its a seperate country now. we share a common ancestery much like we do with the scottish. NI has evolved as a seperate state if we attempted to envelope it into the republic we would be no better than the british as not all its citizens want to be ruled from dublin.

shell to sea is a losing battle with less and less locals supporting the cause!! its time to accept this project like they did with the E.S.B years ago. glengad is now just a breeding ground for crusties and provos looking to cause troble fact...
