The passage of the Transportation Referendum would result in the building of new transit in Atlanta within a few short years. It would build 10.2 miles of pedestrian-friendly rail transit with approximately five miles on the east and west sides of the Atlanta BeltLine and five miles on streets through downtown and Midtown. It would connect to three MARTA stations (including a new infill station at Joseph E. Boone Boulevard), Piedmont Park, the Atlanta Streetcar, three parks on the west side, Georgia Tech, Georgia State, and more key regional destinations. I live in Columbus GA. Our SPLOST passed. Atlanta's SPLOST was rejected.

Much of Columbus' alternative transportation (like 26 miles of Riverwalks, Biking & Hiking trails, adjoining parks, & development) was created by minor federal funding, city government funding, and most importantly; a great deal of private funding from corporate gifts. Public-Private Partnerships have worked very well in Columbus. SPLOST failed in Atlanta, but the Beltline can survive with creative Public-Private financing.
