Off Duty Driver refuses to show ID to Texas DOT inspector

Driver: Hi maam

DOT officer: Is your CDL in there?

Driver: No, I didn't know what you wanted me to wake up for.

Officer: I just wanted your CDL.

Driver: Oh okay. is that..

Officer: Do you have it with you?

Driver: Of course I do, but I have a question first. I'm an American. You know, right?

Officer: Uh huh

Driver: This is Texas, right?

Officer: Yes.

Driver: Why did you wake me up when I'm off duty, I'm in the sleeper?

Officer: I don't know why he woke you up, I just asked him to get your drivers license.

Driver: He doesn't have my drivers license, I have it in my pocket.

Officer: Okay.

Driver: So he has to, by definition, wake me up to get it.

Officer: Okay.

Driver: I'm asking why -

Officer: Because I asked him to get it from you.

Driver: Is that a legal demand or a request?

Officer: It is a request.

Driver: I'm not driving, so that's..

Officer: Correct.

Driver: If it's a request, I'm refusing.

Officer inspector: Okay. That's fine.

in the sleeper and off dury you dot have to do crap for anyone other wise if you do you are berakibng the dot regs and can be fined for not having 8 hrs off duty.. the moment you give your lic you are on duty againb.. they cant force you to break the law
