At the end of his show, he gives one final pitch for American Tobacco company. I especially love the giant tobacco leaf in the background of the credits.
@AndreainArkansas7 yeah, it's absolutely ignorant to make a judgement on a star hawking cigarettes prior to 1970. Especially a 1950s commercials.....absolutely everyone smoked back then.....my doctor smoked, my dentist smoked.....all my teachers in school smoked. In high school I would walk by the teachers lounge and it was like a fog of smoke in there wafting out into the halls. In fact smoking was a very "social" activity too....people were always offering others a cigarette
@AndreainArkansas7 I'm sorry I made you angry. I love watching the St Jude specials and am very glad you are a survivor. I want to be a partner in hope, but I don't work right now, but when I die, I'm going to give the rest of my money to the St Jude Childrens Research Fund, I want to see a cure for all catasprophic illness for all the children. Again I am happy to see you are a survivor.
@Sheri451 St. Jude is mostly for cancer stricken children but some have other rare conditions. It opened in 1962 and I believe the only commercials for him trying to sell cigarettes are in regard to The Danny Thomas Show from the '50s. Even as early as the '70s the public didn't have as clear of a link between smoking and cancer as they do now--hence some ads being allowed on tv until then. Cut him a break. Thousands of people are alive because of the hospital he founded. I'm one of them.
Ha bay bivel yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama yama....SOLD TO AMERICAN!!!!! Lucky Strikes & Pall Mall: unfiltered smokes that kicked butt...filtered cigarettes were for society ladies and children only!!!!!
I remember watching alot of the Danny Thomas Show with my grandmother. I hear people say alot of rift but the idea was back then and still now is to put a familiar face to a brand even if they are not using it themself just to get the product sold. I am glad to see the vintage adds. Be amazing if you can find a vintage add for like bufferin when tthey use cocaine in there products. I have seen a box from it.
Even though he's seen shilling here for a big tobacco company in 1955, should props be given to Mr. Thomas for NOT smoking an American Tobacco product?
