Me spitting one of my original verses over the Book of Rhymes beat (by Alchemist) to show my appreciation for perhaps my most important idol.

[Lyrics]
So let's all listen very close about the visionary
Name is Nasir Jones, but only Nas is necessary
Including The Lost Tapes, ten albums dropped by zero-eight
The last one is Untitled round the single Hero's date
Blessed with words and vision, father was a jazz musician
Born seventy-three to be a prodigy with rhythm
It's so easy to see that he's one of the best alive
Reflects Rakim in skill, from where his nickname is derived
Then when he debuted in ninety-one on Breaking Atoms
His new attention grew, Gods Son was gonna make it happen
Caught the eye of one guy from a group that's called 3rd Bass
MC Serch helped sign him, now it all can fall in place
94 is when it is The Genesis of Nas
Illmatic was an LP that first helped me to regard
Hip-hop well, you held me in a New York State of Mind
That propelled my interest, I kept pressing Rewind
It's true that Life's a Bitch, but if your music's heard in stores
My view on life's enriched and I accept The World Is Yours
Past Halftime wait, I take a trip down Memory Lane
I feel One Love as I'm engulfed in city domains
One Time for Your Mind to help design wide scenes
Of the life and times you Represent for Queens
It Aint Hard to Tell; you excel, then prevail
Expressing The Message in your tales through details
Of Shootouts and Set-Ups, you give me Street Dreams
Where I Take It in Blood as I live the Thief's Theme
I Can Get Down and Rule, just pass me One Mic to hand
Made You Look as I school on what Nas is Like to fans
Today you see me; you could say to me "I Gave You Power"
I'd then say "I did it My Way, but you gave us our
Inspiration, demonstrate about Bridging the Gaps
Between poems and raps, taught about ripping the tracks"
In Just A Moment, you have told us more than simple lessons
Your stories holding us in awe of holding Smith n Wessons
Don't try denying, in My Country War is Necessary
Why I admire your entire work, I guess its very
Relevant to mine, I change the elements in lines
So I can write just like your rhymes in intricate designs
In Every Ghetto, we're all set to start our lyric scheming
Now you've said Hip-Hop is Dead, but I'm instead Still Dreaming
Still carrying The Cross, it costs me nothing to remember
If I select a best MC, you're often a contender

  • thank you to all the people who have 'liked', favourited or left a positive comment! if anyone's interested, i've left a couple of new videos in reply to this one - check them out and i'll appreciate it!

  • yo i like this brother. good wordplay. Nas is the greatest of all time and this I am sure would humble him

  • @cybergodson yeah, i just felt that one of the greatest popular lyricists of our time needed an acknowledgement of how essential to his culture he is the same way that he paid tribute to Ra.

  • this is ill....im not gonna lie, i thought i was gonna come in here and laugh at you but this is really good...nice work

  • don't worry. i get that kind of reaction all the time. i'd also say that because this is one of my somewhat earlier works, this isn't really a good indicator of what i can do now. i've got this really big project going on right now and hopefully i can upload some material from it later this year to show what i'm capable of now.

  • ok, if anybody here's interested, i have a new video up for a YouTube contest and i'd appreciate any support you can give me.

see all
